Duties and responsibilities:A thoracic surgeon is a medical doctor who performs operations on the heart, lungs, esophagus, and other organs in the chest. This also includes surgeons who can be called cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiovascular surgeons, general thoracic surgeons, and congenital heart surgeons.

Education:At weekly interdisciplinary conferences, familiarity is gained with the theories, interpretation, and techniques used in the cardiac catheterization and pulmonary function laboratories. These regular meetings include multidisciplinary conferences in adult and pediatric cardiac surgery, thoracic oncology, as well as death and complications. In addition, the didactic lecture series covers a wide range of topics in all areas of cardiac and general thoracic surgery, including basic research.
